There are several careers provided by universities in the field of engineering. The qualifications for these professionals differ from one country to another. They use practical skills and knowledge to deliver their services. The choices for design are very overwhelming. The engineering disciplines are as follows; architectural design. It involves the application of engineering principles to building construction as well as design. An architectural engineer is the same as an architect.

Another career at is the agricultural engineering which strives to apply the science of engineering to farming and agricultural production. The scope of agricultural engineering is broader the all other types of engineering. It usually combines the elements of civil, mechanical and chemical engineering with plant and animal biology.

Biomedical engineering is the application of principles of engineering and technology to the field of medicine. Biomedical engineering has grown in the recent past gaining popularity among students. Specialization can be done in this area which can see on majoring in tissue engineering, biotechnology among others.

Civil engineering deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of roads, bridges, canals, and others. It has been developed to distinguish it from military engineering. It is level 3 engineering course after the military.

Ceramic engineering relates to the practice of creating and designing objects from inorganic materials which are non-metallic. It deals with the purification of raw materials, production of components as well as the study of these elements, their structure, and properties

Computer engineering is another career which combines the study of computer science and electronic engineering. The engineers here design both computer hardware and computer software. They also develop solutions for the integration of the two careers.

The study and the application of electromagnetism, electronics, and electricity are provided by electrical engineering. It includes the design and implementation of several electronic systems like generators, motors, transformers, and circuits.

Industrial engineering is concerned with the development and improvement of integrated systems. The focus to eliminate waste is dealt with in manufacturing systems. This course is not only limited to manufacturing. It is very broad.

The application of scientific principles to the improvement of the environment is studied environmental engineering. This career attempts to provide healthy water, air, and land for proper habitation. It also deals with finding solutions for damages caused by pollution to the environment.

Mechanical engineering is concerned with design, production and the use of tools and machines to perform the respective works.It deals with the generation and application of mechanical power.

Nuclear engineering is concerned with finding the practical uses of nuclear energy. It incorporates the development and maintenance of nuclear reactors, weapons, and power plants.

Others include the materials engineering which deals with the properties of matter and its application to technology and science.
